Signing of the lease for Wood-
•tock Terrace, formerly known
as Van Buren Houses, at East
161st Street, between Tinton and
Trinity Avenues. In the Bronx,
took place Monday, January 28.
In the Board Room of the New
York CRy Housing Authority,
Chest X-Rays
For Harlem
The portable television set
which will be given away on
March 29 in conjunction with the
chest X-ray survey in the Har
lem area is on display at the
Empire City Savings Bank, 231
W. 125th St.
Donated by P. Ballantine 4
Sons, the TV set is an added
incentive to every one 15 years
of age and older to get a free
chest X-ray when the mobile bus
is in his neighborhood.

Woodstock Terrace provides 320
apartments ranging in size from
three to 54 rooms. A feature
of the development is that pri
vate balconies are provided for
all 44-and 54-room apartments
above the first floor. The bal
conies are faced with blue por
celain enamel on steel, as a
decorative touch. The develop
ment cost is $6,800,000.

Rabbis Urge
Complete
Emancipation
"The Negro should not be forc
ed to wait for a second Emanci
pation Proclamation to achieve
his complete freedom,” the Cen
tral Conference of American Rab
bis said this week.
“Schools and housing remain
highly segregated, employment
opportunities remain limited,
while in some Southern commun
ities the fundamental right to the
ballot is denied to citizens be
cause of their race,” the rabbis
said.
The reform rabbis called for
special observance on Saturday
of Race Relations Sabbath. The
Central Conference, at 40 W. 68th
St., is the rabbinical organization
of the Reform branch of Judaism
and has a membership of 900
spiritual leaders in the United
States and Canada.
Marcus Garvey
Building Nears
Early Completion
The first floor of a two-story
building honoring the memory of
the late Marcus Garvey, African
nationalist leader, has been com
pleted at 141st St., east of Eighth
i Ave.
Prof. R. Waldo Williams, di
rector of education for the Afri
can Nationalist Pioneer Move
ment, owners of the nearly com
pleted structure, said construc
tion is expected to be terminat
ed before summer.
“We hope to dedicate the buil
ding on Aug. 1,7, Marcus Garvey
Day,” said Prof. Williams.
The building will provide a
site for the new headquarters of
the ANPM and will be named
Garvey Memorial Building.
