The Virginia Supreme Court I of Appeals said that no legisla tive committee is entitled to the, names and addresses of donors of $25 or more to the NAACP '.egal Defense Fund or to the NAACP. 1- i Jack Greenberg, director-coun sel of the Fund, served as ehief counsel of the platoon of at torneys. James M. Nabrit, III conducted the proceedings on behalf of the Fund's New York headquarters. Cited Tax Abuse The Virginia Legislative Com- < mittee, which sought the names, contended that such data was needed in order to determine !f donors had illegally deducted : their contributions from state in come tax forms. Mr. Nabrit told the court that , “there Is no evidence that any contributor to the Legal Defense ;Fund or to the NAACP, has claimed h deduction” in viola tion of Virginia law. The court said that there was no reason to believe “that donors to the organizations involved would likely violate the tax laWs than any other persons.” No other country compares with the U.S In the weekly news paper field.
