« V 1 12 • N. Y. 5&VSTERDAM NEWS, Sat., Jan. 4, 19*4 • * May God grant to each and every reader of this column a world firmly and finally at peace and a groundswell of joy and prosperity in the coming yeur -- and ever after. Few of us, however, will begin our 1964 as auspi ciously as Jimmie Hoskins of Peerless Liquor Co. and his spouse. They rang out the old year with their own brand new diapered darling, a chubby lass of 7 pounds 11 ounces named Wendy. (And for those of you who note such things, the hour of her arrival, was , 3:07 p.m.) The ever popular Jackie Wilson celebrated the opening of his recent rave revue at the Apollo Theater with a real gone blowout at the Baby Grand where his many friends and adrryrers toasted his rfeturn with sparkling champagne. 4 < Our Party Left ’Em Buzzing • Speaking of blowouts, they’re still buzzing over the one Doc Powell tossed for the staff and friends at Club La Chose. It was a swell party and Joe and Dan Merenda, the genial proprietors of one of Harlem’s finest dining-out/spots, scored a real success with their imaginative location of Santa’s gift-laden sleigh and the piped carols In the Flash Inn. Another success story that gladdens our heart as the yule season draws to a close stems from the un selfish efforts of Cynthia Edmead, Linette Phillips, Hil da McDonald and Selbra Hayes. As you know, these tavern owners collected funds and gifts for distribu tion to needy families. The operation went off without a hitch and ex ceeded optimistic expectations. And Christmas was a little brighter for some poor people. Too much can never be said in praise of the won derful folks who give uastintingly of their time in sup- pOr€of our ctmp Fund charity. The girls on our com- iritftee, all of whom work a full day and then come out to devote half a night without compensation are, I think, perfect examples all year round of what this grqnd season truly represents. So let me say again to each of them from all of us, we love you dearly: Patricia, Sophia, Millie, Elaine, Dottie, Marguerite, Frieda and my Clarice (and never forget our wonder ful emcee, Phil Gordon). I The first Camp Fund Get-together of the New Year will be. i|pld on Monday night, Jan. 4, at Fannye Pierre’s Dawn Cafe where Frieda Harris will be on hand to welcome you. See you then, pals. Make It Grow Again this year, taxpayers may take Federal income tax refunds in U. S. Savings Bonds. It’s a good way to make your refund grow. SC KMEm’SNHsauM SCOTCH WHISKY! NEW POST — Eugene R.
