The directors of this agency ad mit that they and their guests (the exact number was 37) re treated to thia plush rendevous foF two days to discuss OUR Ju venile delinquency problems in Harlem. They admit they spent $1,150.90 during those two days. In addition to that $1,150.90 which they spent for beds, food and drinks approximately $1,000 mere was spent to pay $75 a day ••consultants” whom they brought in from NYU, Columbia Univer sity, Harvard University. Wash ington. D.C., The Bank Street College of Education and other places where Harlem la regarded as a ‘‘laboratory” where whites experiment on Negroes. I could go further. 1 could point out that this agency’s program calls for 14 persons, none of whom live in Harlem, to be paid $75 a day as “consultants”. But where do the people of Harlem get into the act? I submit that there must be a better way to help a commun ity. I submit that if this contin ues the community will not bene fit greatly from this program. All the community gets la an other “study." But when I complain that the community is being “studied to death” at its own expense, they say I’m a mean man who “wants to destroy our program.” All I’m asking, all I asked these people last week, — all that I'm going to ask these peo ple next week — all that I’m going to keep on asking la thia! ‘Who got the money? Where is It being spent? And how la thia helping the of Harlem!” people Is that ashing too much? Wouldn't you ask them the same thing? AU of us have the right to know! * 125th Street Physician Dies Dr. Wolsgang Hess, who prac ticed at 135 W. 125th St. for more than 10 years, died last week at his home at 345 Riverside Drive He was 88.
