basketball honors.
The 18th annual Central Inter
collegiate Athletic Association
Basketball Tourtiament will be
played Thursday, Friday and
Saturday, Feb. 28 and March 1
and 2 in Winston-Salem.
Scene of play will be the
beautiful Coliseum which will
seat 8,u00 fans in comfortable
reserved seats.

pions are the A.AT. Aggies of
Greensboro, N. C. Defending
visitation champs are the Win
ston-Salem Teachers Rams of
Winston-Salem.
These two quintets along with
the Virginia State Trojans of
Petersburg, Va. are vying for
first place honors. All three must
win their remaining games to
stay in the big race.
Eight teams will play ln the
tournament. In addition to the
above three, squads assured of
making the meet are the John
son C. Smith Golden Bulls of
Charlotte, N. C., the Norfolk
State Spartans of Norfolk, Va
the Maryland State Hawks of
Princess Anne, Md. and the
North Carolina College Eagles
of Durham, N. C.
Three quintets are fighting for
the remaining berth. They are
the Virginia Union Panthers, the
Elizabeth City Pirates and the
St. Paul’s Pirates.

ey. Jones, a 37-year-old right
hander is a free agent who was
released by the Detroit Tigers
at season’s end.

The two engaged in a verbal bat
tle after Clay ordered Liston out.
Liston returned with: "They
ought to arrest you for imper
sonating a fighter". The angry
Clay said: “I have predicted
that you will fall in eight. After
this you will fall in six." Cooler
heads stepped between the two
boxers.
Ben Franklin, Boys’, and De
Witt Clinton are shooting for the
high school basketball champion
ship. Clinton, which is undefeat
ed, is gaining. support but Boys
has regained its form after a
slow start. Franklin could be the
dark horse. Last year’s finalist,
Wingate, which was defeated by
Boys in the finals is flounder
ing. Coach Howie Rosenstein had
