Wedding Romance
By JIMMY BOOKER
Substituting for Mrs. Norford
TOP DRAW GUESTS . . . Typical of the continual
social integration that is going on in the New Front
ier in Washington, D.C. these days was seen last
week when five Negro couples were among some 80
persons attending the dinner Vice President and Mrs.
Igwdon Johnson gave at the State Department for
King Sri Savang Vatthana of Laos. They included the
Urban League’s Mr. and Mrs. Whitney Young, the
NAACP’s Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilkins, Mr. and Mrs
Hobart Taylor, of the Civil Rights Commission, At
torney Belford Lawson and his wife, Judge Marjorie
Lawson, and New York's State Senator and Mrs. James
L. Watson, who had accompanied the Vice President
to the Jamaican independence last year.
NOTES HERE AND THERE . . . Last Friday’s Com
mittee of Friends dance at the Park Terrace was his
tory repeating itself in the form of the snow storm.
Two years ago only the hardy made it to the club’s
affair which benefits the Harlem YWCA and the
NAACP’s Legal Redress Fund. And what makes
things more disconcerting is the fact the Friends
changed -their dance date to a near spring time so as
td-avoid such a snow storm repeating . . . The lovely
Mannequins have set May 26 for their dance at the
Riviera Terrace ...
Harry Novick is serving as chairman for the Ur
ban League of Greater New York’s dinner on March
28 to honor former Parole Commissioner Samuel J.
Battle, a man of many historic firsts in the city, in
cluding being the first Negro policeman.
