Robert Kinlock and supported by the African Na tionals in America, with Lewis H. Miohaux and Alex Prempeh, held a rally, to send a “People to People Effort” from the peo­ ple of Harlem to the people of Mississippi. It was held in “Harlem Square’’ at 125th Street and Seventh Ave­ nue, with Atty. Percy Sutton as emcee and a hosi of guest speak­ ers from the local churches. But if Harlem ever had an op­ portunity to support a worthy1 cause, this was it, even though it may have been in some respects a bitter disappointment, accord­ ing to a spokesman. “The Theresa Hotel having donated a store space for the headquarters, few of the churches came forward with, anything. In­ stead there was overtures made to return to the church and to the faith, to bring the community contributions to the church, not the headquarters. Not to bring clothes, but food and money.” Clothes In Basement Mr. Michaux called upon the people of Harlem to rally to a worthy cause, the need of their own people for help, for food, clothes, medicine, or whatever they could. Then he called his followers to bring from the base­ ment well over 500 pounds of clothes being held there for the] destitute people of Mississippi. The ton of clothes and food col-1 lected is planned to be shipped] to the first county of Mississippi,] CLarsdale, by Friday, with the] support of the Teamsters Union.
