T. — Basie, Getz, Coltrane, McRae To Head Whole Hour On CBS-TV The third annual International Program Exchange, conducted by the five CBS owned television stations and broadcasters from other countries, will premiere on WCBS-TV with "The Inter­ national Hour: American Jazz" Wednesday, May 21, at 7:30- 3:30 p.m. The stations' "The International Hour: American Jazz" will be produced by WBBM-TV, Chicago, and will feature this country’s leading ja*« artists. The hour will be presented on the five stations in special broad­ casts that will be sponsored by (lie Miller Brewing Company of Milwaukee. Conover Host "The International Hour: Am­ erican Jazz" will feature Count Basie, Stan Getz. John. Coltrane, Carmen McRae and other artists in music' from four jazz eras— Dixieland, Swing, Modern and Progressive. Jazz authority Wil­ lis Conover, known throughout th< world through his Voice of America broadcasts, will host the program which will be taped at the Chicago Lyric Opera House. In addition to the May 21 broad­ cast on WCBS-TV, the program will be seen in evening time on WBBM-TV, Chicago; WCAU- TV. Philadelphia: KMOX-TV, St. Lcuis, and KNXT, Los Angeles. Following the initial American broadcasts. “The International Hour: American Jazz" will be presented on the facilities of ov­ erseas broadcasters taking part in the exchange. In succeeding weeks. “The In­ ternational Hour” will present programs produced abroad for the exchange. The Milwaukee-based brewing firm showed net income for the period of $6,436,095 as compared to $5,091,077 in 1961—an increase of $1,345,018. This represents per share earnings of $1 38 as com­ pared to $1.10 for the previous year. James C. Windham, president, pointed out that the substantial increase In earnings was achieved despite the fact that the company us'd a tax loss carry forward of approximately $1.800,000 in 1961 There was no tax loss carry­ forward in 1962. Net sales for the year came to $181,379,014 .as compared to $175,- 497,622—an Increase of $5,881,392. Hie 1961 sales figures. Mr. Wind­ ham explained, included about $12,000(000 of sales from the com­ pany's soft drink subsidiary which was sold in December 1961. To exceed the 1961 figures, sales for the current period had to pick up the loss of volume represented by the disposition of the subsid­ iary, he pointed out.
