The trouble Is they set one against the other and you know as well as I do that we are all brothers under the skin whether we like It or not, and we have a right the same as anyone else for we are our worst enemy. You see we do the very same thing to one another that we get angry with the white man for do ing Your Christ did not just fight for the right of the Jew, neither did Moses just bring out the Jew ish people: he brought out all that wanted to come and don't get me wrong for I am a black man not a Negro or a man who hates anyone, for two wrongs will never make a right. So why don’t you people lay off Powell and let him do the job the people pay him to do. And another thing Powell might be a man I don’t like but that has nothing to do with the truth. And-TTfte other thing this is my country and I have paid six years of my life to be able to say this, and the law says I have the same right as any other man and I will get that right no matter what. Tony Abney New York City Back Turning Sir: Regarding that outdoor meeting. I wonder how many peo ple realize that those supposedly outspoken words end remarks made by the Hon. Adam Clayton Powell»to try and lure the Mus lims to the polls to vote. Mr. Powell is for Mr. Powell. First he tried to hoodwink the Puerto Ricans by telling them that he was looking out for them, so they could forget their own leaders. Of course they soon, in fart immediately, realized that Powell is a phony. The Puerto Ricans have not be?@ed anyone to speak for them because, unlike the Negro, they have more than enough leaders. Mr. Powell has eompltely turn ed his back on his own district. Sure we have the Peace Corps (ACT), but who really gets the gravy? Rep. Adam Powell. We have to go along with it so as not to be out of same Federal money for our youth. Just look back over the years. Adam Pow ell heaped great and unending praise on the work of our NAACP at the top. He also knew then that if it were left to the Negro high echelon, an organization Like the NAACP would not stick toge ther. Just take a look at how oft en we are farced to vote in a new president at the uptown NAACP office. Not to overlook the amount of times this local office is in the red. Please answer regarding whether Mr. Powell is married to a white woman, and whether the Muslims are allowed to be dem ocratic and marry a person of tile white race. Gwendolyn DeSouza 116-26 167th St. Jamaica. N.Y. Editor's Note: Mrs. Powell is a Puerto Rican. Dubious Future • Sir: This letter is primarily a letter of congratulation for Miss Gertrude Wilson on her frank, honest appraisal of the Muslin®. It is also a letter of condemna tion for all of the Negro columnists on this so-called Negro newspa per, who haven’t had the guts to make an honest appraisal of the Muslims for themselves and then report how they truly feel. I am very dubious about the future advances we will make in eliminating our many racial ills as long as we continue with our child-like attitudes. I know that there are some white people, and some Negroes who just don’t relish the idea of the masses of black people really obtaining true equality, because they seem to think that this will endanger their status in the com munity. They talk and write unceasing ly about all of our racial imbal ances (with the encouragement of the white bigots) since this is us ually the limit of their endeavor, but will not encourage or aid any group that is seriously and. sin cerely eliminating our many pro blems. unless they are first sanc tioned by the Great White Father. The great white fathers have labeled the Muslims a hate group, and immediately the Ne and many others only Intend to satisfy their selfish needs. Mr. Powell is now crying because his many white friends are now de serting him. Finally he can no longer twist them around his lit tle finger. He also realizes that many in Harlem are getting Wise to him, and Ray'Jones both living outside of the community. We do not forget the contributions these people nave made but with our continuous struggle; it is recog nized whatever contributions are made toward the progress of t he Negro. Let us not forget that the students sit-in demonstrations, the many court fights regarding desegregation in the southern schools were waged by the very able Thurgood Marshall Mr. Powell should also try and look back at the amount of Ne groes with money who have run from our community because they really do not want to live among their own people. If it weren’t for some of the really sincere white people. I wonder how far we would get? Yep. people are not fooled by that speech Saturday. He wants the press and whites to think that he now controls the Muslims and Malcolm X. I’U bet Mr. X. sees through Adam already. Roy Wil kins was right. Adam Powell is truly Harlem’s problem child. Alexander Pierce New York, N.Y. Comparing Strides Sir: In response to the open let ter written to Congressman Adam Clayton Powell hy ex-baseball player Jackie Robinson. I have the following to say. Though I am not a registered Muslim, the teachings and facts proclaimed by the Honorable Eli jah Muhammad and his Interna tional representative. Minister Malcolm x, cannot honestly be denied by any real race-conscious so-called Negro. . Mr. Robinson must be aware that today the NAACP, though it has done uome good In the past, unless it changes its policy quickly, will soon be of little use or value to the over 18,000,000 60- called Negroes in America. It cannot honestly and intelligently be compared with the tremendous strides that are being made by the Black Muslims. has done more for worker than Adam Powell ever will. Howard N. Myer Rockville Center. N.Y. FAST PAIA RELIEF! HEADACHE RHEUMATIC-LIKE PAMS HEADACHES DUE TO TENSION Whether this paper would want to admit it or not, it is a darn shame when it takes a white col umnist to publicly admit the truth about the Black Muslims. If we sincerely focus our at tention on these strange happen ings then, it is easy to see why we are in such bad shape. True there are some skeptics who seem to see some controver sial aspects in the Muslims, or any group for that nut+ter but the overall good of the Muslims pro gram should eclipse any area of doubt any sincere person har bors. Blundered Badly If Adam Clayton Powell has been quoted correctly as saying that Negroes should not support NAACP. he has blundered very badly I -fully subscribe to the posi tion of Loren Miller, (which NAACP circulates, incidentally,) called "Farewell to the twhite) Liberals." But that does not mean farewell to the white inte- gratioreist. particularly one who brings special talent and burn ing indignation as part of his qualifications. Also where does Mr. Robinson get the authority to make the ri diculous statement that the way pointed by the Black Muslims is not the true way to the solution of the Negro problem? Mr. Robinson makes the state ment that the Negro is growing] up. Yes, he is growing up, qndl the more he grows, the mare he! realizes that to be race-cons cious is to think in terms of ad vancement of self and kind. This1 has been the essence of advance ment in all other ethnic groups of peoples on the face of the earth. Though the open letter was written to Mr. Powell, I am cur-] ious to know just what side of the] fence is Mr. Robinson on. Is he for his own people, or has he be come so white-minded that he has lost sight of the masses, their problems, and the tremendously] admirable job that the Muslims are doing to uplift, advance, and lead their people to independence and equality? Walter F.
