The Giant Killers (Continued from Page ,13) clawing and scratching at Malcolm X when Malcolm is stitting there saying “Your enemy is in this room all right— but it’s not me!” Thurgood Marshall once Said to me “There is no legal way to commit an illegal act.” I remember that each time I see a Negro leader coaxed into trying |o slay another Negro leader by the real enemy of both of them. I simply repeat Thurgood Marshall’s words to myself and say “There is no legal argument that any Negro can employ, to support the illegal way the white man has, and still is, treating the Negro in this country. For example how can anyone defend the use of dogs against Negroes in Mississippi? Apd why should any Negro try? That’s why they look so bad against Malcolm X, All Ma’colm X has to do is to sit up there and say “White people have done, this, and this, and that, and that, to Negroes and all of that was and is illegal and morally and spiritually wrong.” Show me a Negro leader, or a white leader either, for that matter, who can take a statement like that and prove it’s legally wrong. It can’t be done. But Negro leaders certainly are anxious to try. All Negroes Must Stand Up For Count No matter how fair a Negro may be, how far he travels, or how great his personal accept ance, ‘‘being a Negro Is an In escapable fact and he must stand up and be counted,” New Rochelle NAACP president Paul D. Dennis Jr. declared. Dennis, speaking recently be fore members of Echo Bay Chapter of B’nai B’rith Chapter at the Eldorado Yacht Club in New Rochelle, warned listeners: “We must no longer be silen ced by fear of losing our Jobs, homes, special privileges and even life, It that la necessary.” The time for freedom, for Ne groes and every other disad vantaged group, is now, not to morrow, Dennis asserted.
