Day Care- Week Luncheon Set The opening event of Day Car Week will be a luncheon in hono of national, stale and city offi cials in the Grand Ballroom ol the Hotel Astor on Monday, April 29. The highlight of ihe luncheon will be a dTamatic presentation entitled "The Locked Door", per formed by the Snarks, Ltd., a wooman’s dramatic group found ed in 1919 The Snarks are pre senting "The Locked Door" as a community service. The local WAVE, a former stu­ dent at Bronx High School of Science and Hunter College spent a 14-day leave with ber parents before reporting to U S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois, for Hospital Corps School. Hospital Apprentice Campbell received instructions In Naval Orientation; Naval History, Cit­ izenship and Current Events; Na­ val Ships, Aircraft and Arma­ ment; Navy Jobs and Training; Self Improvement; First Aid; Physical Training; and Military Bearing and Drill during her in­ doctrination period. The New York City WAVE en­ listed at the U.S. Navy Recruit­ ing Branch Station, Fordham Road, Bronx. New York for 3 years and was sworn in at 207 West 24th Street. (McAdams Photo). ’MrM * NCNW Cancer Program The National Council of Negro Women, in cooperation with the American Cancer Society, has launched a life-saving program entitled Conquer Uterine Cancer aimed at the ultimate control of this form of cancer. At a tea given by the Society at the Hotel Biltmore last week Miss Dorothy I. Height, nation al president of the Council, an- nouced the appointment of Mrs Estelle Osborne of the National League for Nursing as National Chairman of the Project. Twice As Many Negroes Uterine cancer now takes the lives of some 14,000 American women each year — a tragic loss when one considers the fact that experts say uterine cancer is al most 100 per cent curable if di agnosed and treated in time. This project is of especial significance to Negro women since almost twice as many become victims of uterine cancer as do white wom­ en. i 101 YEARS YOUNG — Shown is Mrs. Minnie Rouse who cele­ brated, recently her 101st birth­ day. Miss Kemp Weds Allen Lee Fludd Miss Lydia Suzzanne Kemp of 1375 Lyman Place, Bronx, was married to Allen Lee Fludd of 1531 Southern Blvd. the Bronx re­ cently at St. Augustine Presby terian Church, 165th Street and Prospect Avenue by the Rev Edler G. Hawkins. Her gown was of silk peau de soie -headed with seed pearls, crystals and iridescent spangles in a leaf design was made and designed by her aunt Mrs. Lil- liam Williams. Lday- of-the-Month for March by a Selection Board thatytncludes the wives of the service Secretaries and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U. S. LADY magazine announced. Mrs. Harvey is the wife of Major Denzal T. Harvey, USAF, and the mother of four children. She was nominated for this hon­ or while living in Ankara, Turkey where her husband was assigned to the Unit'd States Logistics Group (TUSLOG).
