Warning Issued On Fireworks N. Y. AMSTERDAM NEWS, Sat., June29, IMS • 19 OlBffGMk. Fire Commissioner Edward Thompson warned this week that the illegal sale and use of fire­ works will be severely proeecut- "The use, sale or dlscarge of fireworks is a crime punishable by Imprisonment up to six months. "Fireworks caused <50 fires in New York City in 1882. "Citizens who know of any vio­ lations are urged to call Fire Marshal Martin Scott at White­ hall 3-3600, Extension 2149, dur­ ing the day and through Rhine­ lander 4-1000 at night. "Make the Fourth of July a safe and sane Independence Day." Fret Artists In Concert Top fret artists and orches­ tras will be heard at the 6th Annual National Convention - Concert sponsored by the Fret­ ted Instrument Guild of America June 27-29 at the Barblzon Plaza Hotel, 106 Central Park South. Earl B. Lichten will be emcee and d’Orsay Twins, hostesses. Featured artists include Peter Voumas, mandolinist, Bill Fos-f ter, mando-’eellist, Eddie Alkire, stel guitarist, Bob Kennedy, ban- joist, James Hurley, Russell Procopio and Maria Magnelli, mandolinists, and Larry Snitz- ler, classic guitarist. There will be panel discus­ sions, workshops and exhibits. The night set turned out for the funeral of Robert**'Frazier’* Thornwell who died following a duel with Casablanca's bartend­ er Jamea Barten. Face Grand Jury Ernesto Castro, 21, of 62 W. 95th St., charged with the fatal knifing of Neives Rodriquez in front of 1410 Fifth Ave., near W 116th St., is being held without bail for action by the Grand Jury. Honorary chair­ men of the project and the fund were Mrs. Joyce Phillips Austin, '.Mrs. Nora Holt, Mrs. Louise . Handy, Senator James S. Watson and Warren Wilson, alumni repre­ sentative. The Sunday afternoon Town Hall recital served as an ex­ cellent showcase for the school and the young students who will be the musicians ot tomorrow Featured among the alumni were Mrs. Vinette Newby Dick­ son, the school's first pupil who presented Miss Shepperd with a bouquet. Also Anne Laverne Gaither, Marjorie Peterson and Grace Sampson, three former scholarship winners who are now professional musicians and teachers in the New York educ­ ational system. Other Alumni Other outstanding alumni assist­ ing in the promotion of the pro­ gram were James Neely, Sylvia Payne< Lucille Dixon Robertson. Kathleen Moses and Dolores Pringle, all artists and teachers. Youngest featured was Lynne Dianne Peterson, a graduate of Music and Art High School and currently attending Fisk Univers­ ity. The performance of the stu­ dents indicated the capable train­ ing they received. Marked rhy- • thmic feeling and sensitive under­ standing and interpretation ap­ peared in solo and ensemble pieces at two pianos and organ played simultaneously. There were rhythm band selections which featured the younger stu­ dents. Ernest Robertson, five- year-old drummer, captivated the audience. The kinder symphonie was con­ ducted by Miss Shepperd in the Poet and Peasant Overture and Strauss' beautiful "Tales of the Vienna Woods," her own arrange­ ment. The orchestra consisted of 50 players, all of whofn deserved applause.
