Considering Manhattan Beach Surplus Deal Brooklyn Borough President Abe Stark indicated Tederal au thorities in Washington are now- moving toward a decision on New- York City’s efforts to acquire surplus U.S. property at Man hattan Beach and use it as the site for a new $4,500,000 geria trics center. The borough official said the city's application to acquire the property, at no cost to itself, and a more recent supplementary application are undergoing final processing. He expressed confi dence that a determination would be reached probably in the near future. fare about 10 weeks ago. the pity pledged itself to reconstruct the existing hospital at a re vised estimated cost of about (3,000,000 including a new boiler plant, equipment and site develop ment work. The department was assured the plans for reconstruc tion and renovation would be pre pared promptly after the city's acquisition of the property and that the work would be started as soon as the plans were com pleted. The supplementary application was submitted by Mayor Robert F. Wagner with the Board of Es timate’s approval. Sponsor’s Name Mr. Stark has been the origin al sponsor of the city's move to acquire 13.8 acres of land owned by the government together with related facilities which include existing buildings of the former Manhattan Beach Hospital of the U.S. Public Health Service. The city originally sought an 8-acre site occupied by the hos pital, but later requested an ad ditional 5.8 acre parcel for the construction of hbusing accom modations for personnel who would staff the center. Aaron Brown Shows Fine Lines In Bias Racial integration is a concept which goes far beyond racial de segregation, according to Dr. Aaron Brown, member of the New York City Board of Educa blocks as segregated housing, dis crimination in employment, too few opportunities for union ap prenticeship and lack of skills on the part of minorities. tion. A borough resident and mem ber of Brooklyn’s First A.M.E. Zion Church, Dr. Brown n\ade the point during an address to the student-body and faculty of the summer session at State Uni versity College. Plattsburgh, N.Y. Tuesday morning. Desegregation can be tealized through legal means, pressures, policies, boycotts,” Dr. Brown said. Action on the part of the mi nority class group is necessary. For, said he, "integration’s role in public education demands a two-way street operation. The minority can and should help the majority, likewise the majority is disadvantaged when it is in sulated from reality.’’ Youths Kill Man For 25c Working consistently, it took Just 24 hours for Detectives Frederick Simpson and Wayman Duncan of Brooklyn’s 80th pre cinct to break one of the most senseless murders in the Bed- ford-Stuyvesant area in recent years. The detectives were aided by Det. Richard Burns of the Hom icide Squad and led by Det. Lt. Watkins Perry, also of the 80th, in flushing out three teen-age youths who allegedly beat, stom ped and knifed a 37-year old man to death for a quarter. The youths are Robert Jones, 18. of 270 Marion Street, unem ployed; Wesley Davis, 17, 1063 Dean Street, unemployed; and Harold George, 16, of 457 St. Marks Avenue, a student They are all members of the “Suicide Bishops’* gang, according to po lice. Lewie S. Magg Jr. to the Munic ipal Bench, for a second term of ten years. This Committee is headed by J. Albert Briscoe, a former Ex ecutive Board Member and foun- 3er of the now "6th, Assembly District” official publication "The Guardian.” Mr. Briacoe stated '.'the enthus iasm of the committee was rais- ed by the knowledge, that Judge Flagg was the first Negro elect ed to the bench in the history of Kings County (1953) and at this time, he received the bi-partisan endorsement, of all three major parties. Also, the committee con eluded that the three party en dorsement attested to the Judge's fitness and qualifications.** The Committee is finalizing plans for a Gala Birthday Dinner and Dance to be held on October IS, 1963 at Ben Maksik'e Town & Country Club.
