Drew Medical Society of Loa Angeles, composed of Negro phy sicians in the Los Angeles area, strongly protested last week the appearance of an advertisement in the Los Angeles County Medi cal Association’s monthly bulle tin which billed a forthcoming speech by Robert Welch, a lead er of the John Birch Society. The Negro doctors, while sop- porting freedom of speech, said the Birch dogma was “contrary to the Interests of Negro physi cians seeking equality of oppor tunity.” They called upon the county medical group to make a public statement in the next edition of the monthly publication denying responsibility in promoting the Welch speaking engagement, or by allowing an opposing speaker to appear on the same platform with him. CONSISTENT - Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hawkins of New York, who last week won the ABA Life Master’s Mixed Bridge championship for the fifth time.
