vr? A* Some Suprised By Whites In "March WASHINGTON - For the Rev Frank Churchill, the march on thia capital by more than 250,000 Negroes and whites was “a dem onstration of faith." "It's going to have a great power of persuasion on the cit izenry of the nation," said ttic minister of New York’s Hood Memorial AME Zion Church. "I'm greatly impressed by the goodly percentage of white peo ple here and by the white church es which many of them repre sent." he continued. The Rev. Churchill had arrived here on the 8 a m train from New York. He said that while the members of his church did not come by bus many of them came here, as individuals with other groups. He said he expected Bishop William J. Walls, senior AME Zion prelate, to arrive later to Join the march. The minister said he was sur prised by t'e active participa tion of whit churches, many of which were represented by their members, but added that he hoped white churches now would become more involved with the movement for racial Justice and Christian brotherhood. Heartened "Many churchmen who stayed home now will be heartened to Join future demonstrations,’’ he continued, “and I expect that may of them will be preaching more persistently on the need for a Christian awakening ' For the Rev. George McClaire. a white minister of Birmingham s Episcopal Church, he was here es sentially to Join the urgent call “to open more Jobs’’ to Negroes He said Birmingham was still tense, but now was ‘‘on the march" to route discrimination and bigotry. He came here with six bus loads of Negroes from Alabama. "We had keen marching in Birmingham in tear and now we came to Washington to march from fear.” he declared. "Great impact should be made by this on civil rights legislators.” National Dental Assn. As you know, I’m in train ing with the New York Football Giants at the Uni versity of Fairfield in Con necticut. I’m beginning my 10th year as a mem ber of the Giants and I’m lappy to say I still have the enthusiasm of a rookie. I have been fortunate to meet numerous Giant fans in my off-season job as a salesman for P. Ballantine and sons. ROSEY BROWN With any football player desire is a key word. With- (Wtit, you had better pack up and go home. And you c$n’t have what some people call “extra” desire. You idnst have constant desire. M Now this year many people might feel that, as a vgjeran, I have my job as left tackle on offense lock ed up. I have never come to camp thinking that I was a cinch. I always respected the talent potential of the rookies and I always felt I had to go all out to retain my status as a Giant regular. • ^Speaking of rookies, we have many fine youngsters in our training camp. In fact, this could be the best looking rookie crop since I joined the Giants out of Morgan State 10 years ago. We have several fine look ing^ backs and many big and fast (that’s important) line men. They include Bob Taylor, a 6-3 240-pounder from Maryland State. Bob is a defensive end and he has fjwwn he has the equipment to become a, top player In (he National Football League. Then there’s Bob Me Adams and Lane Howell, both exceptional prospects Who are battling to gain recognition with our club. Our coach, Allie Sherman, has listed Howell as a |wo-way man at this $tage of training. Lane is a tackle, both on offense and defense. He's a big boy. a mighty big boy.
