YW Campaign Nearing Goal With approximately 80 per­ cent of the goal raised, Upper Manhattan Branch Young Wom­ en’s Christian Association is con­ fident of reaching its $11,042 goal which is the branch’s share in the $360,000 city-wide YWCA campaign. The group launched a drive to raise $250,000 to build a national shrine next door to the national headquarters designated Feb. 10th to 16th as National Beauty Culture Week. Miss Christian Wins Contest The Recipe of the Week con­ test and $5.00 was won this week by Miss Alice Christian, 468 E. 139 Street, Bronx, for her favor­ ite recipe of Old Fashioned Vine­ gar Pie. Vinegar Pie 1 baked pie shell 1(4 cups flour 3 tablespoons corn starch (or % cup flour) ltt cups hot water 2 to 4 tablespoons wine vine- ' gar 1 tablespoon butter 2 eggs, separated. ft teaspoon cream of tartar V< cup sugar. Mix sugar with cornstarch in sauce pan, add water, vinegar and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture is very thick. Remove from heat Beat egg yolks until thick, stir a small amount of tbe hot mixture at a time into the yolks, return to saucepan, stir­ ring constantly and cook for about 3 minutes. Pour into pie shell and cool. Beat egg whites, add cream of tartar, sugar and beat until stiff and glossy. Spread over pie and brown. D. C. — With almost 4 million more women than men of voting age, and with the majority of all women voting Republican, Mrs. Clare B. Williams, top woman of the GOP, said today that •’Republi­ can women have a special res­ ponsibility in politics and govern­ ment.” “There are 1,192,000 more wo­ men of voting age than men In the big ‘swing’ states of Michi­ gan, New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio,” she eaid, ’“with its total of 119 electoral votes.” In New York women outnumber men by 569.000. As Director of the Women’s Division of the Republican Nat­ ional Committee, Mrs. Williams is implementing the “Win With Womanpower” theme of the 1963 Republican Women's Conference with the “GROW” program.
