The minister founded and pastored Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in nearby Lin­ den. He served there for 19 years before he retired in 1913, A fraduate of Allen University in S. C , he is survived by a sou, three daughters, eight grandchil­ dren and eight great-grandchil­ dren. Charge Northern $$ Finance Bias In South Lower class whites in the South are not fully to blame for racial discrimination and segregation in the South, but many Northern- based corporations must share in a large amount of toe cause of racial unrest, the Student Non- Violent Coordinating Committee charged this week. SNCC Officials, In letters to their key supporters throughout the country this week, called for major demonstrations against 10 big business corporations in the North which they claim have 'plants in Birmingham, Ala., and headquarters in the North which are promoting racial violence in the South through their reluctance Ito assume real leadership. Many of these companies have New York headquarters. I Listed by SNCC as employing over 35 per cent of the manufac­ turing workers in Birmingham are the following corporations: United States Steel Corporation, Saint Regis Paper Company, Man tin Marietta Corporation, Lone Star Cement Corporation, United States Pipe and Foundry Company, 'Republic Steel Com­ pany, Harrison-Walker Refac­ tories, Natco Corporation, Huttig Sash and Door Company, and Union Carbide Corporation. “It is not lower-class whites who direct Birmingham's racial policies, but rather it is the si­ lence of real leadership, economic interests, many of which are located in the North, which en­ courage* racial violence and con­ dones police brutality,” SNCC officials said in the letter.
