The special hour-long * "Ballad of A Country” which wiU feature youngsters from the Professional Children’s program Is part of a series to be seen WOR-TV. "Six Pac” locally on Pianist Attacked, Robbed Philippa Schuyler, young Amer ican concert pianist and author, was attacked, knocked down end robbed of $300 by a youthful German in the Frankfort rail way station at 2 un. on Satur day October 5 while she was changing trains there for Brus- tls. She had Just come from Frei burg, Germany, the headquart ers of the publishing oompany. Herder & Harder, who are bring ing out her third book, “Jungle Saints,” on October 20. The young artist had just given a concert in Frieburg end was on her way back to Rome where she is to perform in concert this month also. The attack and rob bery took place in clear view of over 100 German men none of whom reportedly raised a finger to help her or to stop her as- sailment. French Student One man came forward to help eventually, and he turned out to be a young French student, Mau rice Raymond, who was in Frank fort to study German. He went with Philippa to the police station to help describe her attacker. Fortunately, the man had not taken her air tickets, passport, or Ural Pass which were in an other part of her bag. But with the money was her rosary given her recently by Pope Paul. Here in New York, Mrs. George Schuyler, Phillippa's mother had this to say: Philippa had no money left with her even for food and the police wanted her to stay two days so It • N. T. AMSTERDAM NEWS, Sat., Oct 19, IMS < ii^——■■■ ■ u *Jopic$ 4/GCOR&& ■■ Owing to the stepped-up deadline occasioned by the Columbus Day holiday we are not able to give you a full report this week of our opening Camp Fund gala at the Baby Grand on Monday. But we'll make up for it with the next edition. For the present, suffice it to say that the most gorgeous union organizer we know, Local 15’s Sophia Bryant, was her usual charming self as hostess. The next affair will be held on Oct. 21 at Fannye Pierre’s Dawn Cafe, Amsterdam Ave. and 144th St., wnere stunning Freida Harris will do the honors. It’s almost two weeks now since the used-to-be Bronx Bombers flew out to Los Angeles for their public burial in Chavez Ravine, but it looks like the long line of cash seekers still storming my Yankee-betting friends will stretch on through the winter. If the grin I’m wearing can be called sadness, then I’m sad for the likes of such pin-stripe fans as Sam Chuirazzi of the Parkway Tavern, Carl Clark of the Golden Grill, and Speedie Pugh and Mac McLeod of Frank's. They’re still paying because they just wouldn’t listen to what we Dodger rooters have been telling ’em since '55. But a serious note: Quick recovery and no ill ef fects to our good buddy Mac McLeod who underwent minor surgery this week. Do you dig steaks? A good bet for one of the best in town is up at the Flash Inn near the 155th St. bridge where Dan and Joe have introduced a trans-Atlantic touch with excellent assortments of dinner wines. We think it may start a trend that will be welcome among Harlem’s people of taste.- Another excellent culinary outpost with at flare for something different is Keith’s West Indian Food Res taurant, at 2525 Seventh Ave. The enterprising Keith Francis is rapidly making household words of such Caribbean specialties as “Achee” and salt fish, fungie and Carib-spiced hot meat patties. But, oh my!, what ;he can't do with his hundred ways of fixing bread fruit and plantain. So, If it’s Calypso for you, Just "Jump in the line and shake your body on time” down to Keith’s. It’s the next best thing to Montego Bay. SALES MANAGER - Lance Drummond has been appointed sales promotion manager, Eastern Division of Victor Fis- chel and Company, Inc., nation wide distributor of Wolfschmldt Vodka and Carstairs Whiskey. Prior to coming into his new post Drummond, a former ex ecutive assistant to Mayor Wagner, served at advertising representative for the Johnson Publishing Co. and sales man ager of Ebonyk Oil Co., Ja maica, Queens, in addition to handling public relations for political candidates. they could maybe apprehend the attacker but they refused to give her any money for a hotel. She went to the American consul fi. nally and asked them to loan her money until she reached Rome where she has an account. “The consul refused until she mentioned that her father was an American newspaperman, then reluctantly he lent her ten dol lars. The young Frenchman, on the otherhand, was most gallant and they have become very good friends. Philippa reached Rome safely." $3 MILLION PHOTO - They say a picture is worth a thou sand words. Here is one worth $3,000,000! That is the actual dollar volume represented by the three Gold Record awards being presented Harry Belafon- ie by RCA Victor Records Div ision Vice President and Gn- eral Manager George R. Marek. The plaques honor Belafonte's RCA Victor albums — “Return To Carnegie Hall,” “Jump Up Calypso” and “Bclafonte” — that recently achieved a million dollars In sales each.
